Installing & Configuring Custom Themes

Installing prebuilt themes couldn't be easier. Volume display themes packaged for this product have the extension *.VolumeOSD. On the righthand side of the page you can find a selection of the files. To install the theme download the file, and double click it in the explorer and the theme will be installed and the Volume Display preview dialog will open, allowing you to activate the theme or configure the position/opacity. If you wish to access this dialog later you can through Start Menu>VolumeOSD>VolumeOSD Preview.

If for some reason *.VolumeOSD files are not associated with the theme installer on your machine, which the installer should do automatically, simply navigate to where you installed the program to, and drag and drop the theme file over the VolumeOSDThemeInstaller.exe. This will launch the theme installer with the command line argument of the path to the theme.

Building your own custom theme

Custom theme design was intended to be as easy as possible. The currently installed theme files are located in the common application folder, (usually) C:\ProgramData\KenMazaika\VolumeOSD\themes. If you navigate here, you will notice that each theme name has its own directory. Inside the theme directory there are a series of images, and an xml file. The xml file instructs the program when to display which image.

The first image that the XML file references will be the name of the muted image. The following images that the xml file references will be the incremental volume changes. You can put as many or few images in the follow images as you wish. There also are initial default coordinates, opacity that adjust the frame of reference for the dialog.

The Name tag MUST match the name of the directory that the theme is located in!. A sample configuration file is below, and it should be pretty intuitive.

Once that is setup, you are free to test it in the Volume Display Preview, and activate it. If you wish to build a *.VolumeOSD file and share it (perhaps here?), *.VolumeOSD files are simply renamed zip files. Any files you put in the zip file will be extracted to C:\ProgramData\KenMazaika\VolumeOSD\themes, so you will want to copy the folder, and all of its contents into the zip file, and then change the file extension.

Our theme directory assumes that there is one theme per VolumeOSD file. While you are free to bundle multiple together, if you share them on the site you should should make a separate file for each theme.
